AAPS dry needling workshop syllabus is carefully curated keeping in mind all the core aspects necessary to be a confident dry needling therapist.
With evidence-based approach, the course prepares the practitioner to clinically co-relate the presenting symptoms, differentially diagnose and identify and needle trigger points for optimal treatment results.
An overview of needling for other tissues apart from muscular system is discussed, along with electroacupuncture and various schools of thoughts and needling practices, to give the practitioner an overall knowledge of the clinical application of dry needling.

- Pre-course module and competency exam:- The pre-course module before the workshop and competency test after completing the workshop helps give confidence to the students about their skills in dry needling and improvise as per the feedback offered by instructors.
- Detailed and relevant syllabus – AAPS dry needling workshops are designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practice of relevant surface anatomy and palpation, contraindications ,precautions and all safety aspects to be able to safely perform dry needling.

- Consents and indemnity – Practitioners should ensure that they perform dry needling within their scope of practice with relevant consents, insurances and permissions where ever applicable.
Eligibility:
Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, osteopaths, Chiropractitioners, acupuncturists, physicians and those with an equivalent degree ,with sound knowledge of human anatomy and the ability to make a clinical diagnosis within their respective scope of practice.
Online Pre-course Module (Mandatory)
Duration – 5 hours
Instructor will be presenting this live online module prior to the workshop.
The pre-course module is designed with the objective of preparing the participant in advance, on the theoretical components of dry needling, myofascial pain, safety precautions and relevant anatomy before beginning the practical course. A pre-course informal quiz will serve as a revision and ensure that participants have fully understood the safety aspects, precautions and other theoretical components.
Contents of the precourse module will also be revised in the practical sessions. It is mandatory for participants wishing to enroll for the practical course, to enroll for this module as well.
The pre-course module can also be taken saperately.

Module 1: Introductory Level
Eligibility: Completion of the Pre-Course Module.
Duration: 2 Days.
This is an introductory/intermediate level course for the evaluation and treatment of pain and dysfunction of neuro myofascial origin.
The instructor will demonstrate the evaluation and treatment of myofascial trigger points with needles for clinically commonly involved muscles, appropriate for the level of the course.
This theory and practical course includes all relevant anatomy review, surface palpation demonstration and plenty of supervised hands on practice.
A small test at the end of the course, will ensure that the clinician has adequately grasped all the important points necessary for safe needling practice and appropriate feedback will be offered immediately.

Fees: INR 9,500/- ( Online Pre-course Module + Module 1 : Introductory Level )
Module 2: Advanced Level
Eligibility: Completion of the pre-course module and Introductory Level
Duration: 3 Days.
The advanced level builds upon the techniques taught in the introductory level.
The course starts with a brief revision of the theory and practical components covered in introductory level. Needling techniques for difficult to access muscles along with alternative needling positions to be able to accurately access a muscle is covered in detail. In the advanced course, there is also a review of the different approaches and theories of needling.
Case presentations are discussed for clinical decision-making regarding choice of needling as a treatment method and integration of needling in clinical practice.
Fees :- INR – 11,000/-
Competency / Certification exam.
Students are eligible to appear for this exam after having completed all three modules (pre course, introductory and advanced levels).
There will be practical and theory components .
The following components will be assessed
- Anatomy
- Precautions / contraindications
- Surface marking
- Palpation skills
- Safety aspects
- Making a diagnosis
- Needling techniques for various muscles of the body.

Sujata Khire
Sujata Khire is a physiotherapist, Founder and Director of Academy of Advanced Physio Skills. She received her Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy in 2002, from the Sancheti Institute for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, Pune, India and thereafter Masters in Cardio pulmonary rehabilitation in 2007. Her special interest and wide exposure to musculoskeletal and sports rehabilitation encouraged her to pursue her training as an instructor in Kinesio taping and Dry Needling and Clinical Pilates.
